Ukrainian President Zelensky Extends Invitation to Former U.S. President Trump Amidst Ongoing Conflict

In a surprising turn of events, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has extended an invitation to former U.S. President Donald Trump to visit Ukraine. However, the invitation comes with a condition – Trump must ensure the cessation of hostilities in Ukraine within 24 hours. This development was reported by The Politico on Friday, January 19.

President Zelensky stated that if Trump can successfully negotiate a halt to the conflict with Russia within the specified timeframe, he would be welcomed in the Ukrainian capital. This offer follows a previous commitment by Trump to end the Ukrainian conflict within 24 hours.

Trump had previously expressed pride in his ability to broker peace, claiming that if he were the U.S. President, he could swiftly bring an end to the hostilities between Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin. He asserted a positive relationship with both leaders and emphasized his readiness to facilitate a resolution.

Throughout his political career, Trump has repeatedly criticized Putin, and tensions between the two escalated in February 2022 when Putin initiated a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, resulting in significant loss of life.

In an interview with the UK broadcasting channel, Four News, on Friday evening, Zelensky reiterated the invitation, stating, "Certainly. Donald Trump, I am inviting you to Kyiv. If you can bring an end to the war within 24 hours, I believe you can come any day. I will be here to welcome you."

Zelensky also expressed interest in understanding the specific "formula" that Trump might employ to conclude the conflict, signaling a willingness to explore any viable solution to the ongoing crisis. The international community closely watches as these unexpected diplomatic overtures unfold amidst the backdrop of a tense geopolitical situation.
